The House of Mary

Christians and also some followers of Islam regard this stone house to be the home of the Blessed Mother in Ephesus.  Christians believe that St. John took care of the Blessed Mother after the death of Jesus until her assumption.

This was once a thriving city.  St. Paul wrote a letter to the Christian community.  The 4th Gospel is believed to have been written here.  It is one of the seven churches mentioned in the Book of Revelation.  One of the great councils of the Church was held here.

Ephesus was once a great city.  St. Paul wrote a letter to the Christians who live there.  The Third Ecumenical Council was held there where the Church affirmed the Nicene Creed and declared Mary as Theotokos.   Although the ancient city no longer exists, you can still admire its greatness as you walk through its ruins.

O Happy Fault…

As you enter into the Chora Church in Istanbul, there is a door that will bring you to the side chapel that served as a mortuary chapel and among the frescoes that you will find there is the Anastasis, the Resurrection.  Christ, who had just broken down the gates of hell, is standing in the middle and pulling Adam and Eve out of their tombs.  It expresses the fulfilment of man’s hope, for immortality, and transcendence.  A Blessed Easter to everyone!
