Catherine Palace, just south of St. Petersburg, originally built in the 18th century, destroyed by the Germans during the sieged of Leningrad, and rebuilt in time for the Tencentenary of St. Petersburg in 2003.

As our cruise ship was leaving St. Petersburg, we passed by a navy installation with some Russian submarines, and not far from this military installation is this beautiful Orthodox Church, which I would imagine is used for the spiritual needs of the Navy and their families.

Copying old master’s drawings and paintings is a time-tested discipline especially in the European tradition of art instruction.  In fact, it is how most of us learn in any type of discipline until we are confident enough to strike on our own.
